Why the application matters

That is a scoped repair instruction, not a fluid recommendation for every Silverado.
Replacement and mixing approvals
Before replacing an older fluid with DEXRON-VI, confirm that the manufacturer approves the replacement for the exact transmission and service operation. Follow the approved topping-up or replacement procedure. Do not generalize that approval to other DEXRON specifications, manual transmissions, or transfer cases.
An approved replacement is different from guessing that two products are compatible. If no applicable approval can be found, use the specified fluid or ask the dealer to identify the authorized replacement.
Before buying or adding fluid
Match the model year, engine, transmission, and market to the manual and any applicable service bulletin. Verify the product meets the required specification. Follow the manufacturer's level-check and filling instructions; a fluid name does not establish a checking temperature or change interval.
